Roots in Concrete: The Hancai Story

From 2016-2018, I managed Hancai, a local streetwear retail store that evolved into a creative platform for apparel design and community building. My work spanned business operations and brand development — from sourcing equipment for production and managing our Shopify e-commerce site to leading retail management.

As the brand’s art and creative director, I shaped Hancai’s visual identity and concept direction, overseeing design execution across collections and campaigns. I also handled product research and development, collaborating with suppliers from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Canada to refine materials and production quality.

In addition to production and retail, I initiated collaborations with brands and influencers to create limited-edition releases and crossover projects. Through our presence in Singapore’s street culture scene, we hosted parties and dance events that fostered a connected community of streetwear enthusiasts and emerging creators.
